1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Pela Radio ("Pela Radio", "we", "us" or "our") handles information when you use the Pela Radio website, mobile application and related services. It also explains the choices and rights available to you.
Pela Radio provides live internet radio discovery, playback, favourites, recently played stations, programme information, recordings, notifications and related listening features. Some features are available without an account.
2. Information we process
Information you provide
If you create an account or contact us, we may process information such as your name, email address, account credentials, profile preferences, support messages and information you voluntarily submit.
App and device information
Depending on the features you use and your device settings, we may process technical information such as app version, device/platform information, notification token, selected home country, language or preference settings, and diagnostic information needed to operate and secure the service.
Listening information
Pela Radio may process station favourites, recently played stations, listening history or similar engagement information where required to provide personalised features, recommendations, analytics or account synchronisation. Some preferences and Smart Notification activity are stored locally on your device rather than on our servers.
Server information
Like most online services, our servers may receive IP address, request time, requested page/API endpoint, browser or app information, and security/error logs when you connect to Pela Radio.
3. How we use information
We use information only where reasonably necessary to operate and improve Pela Radio. This includes providing radio playback and discovery, remembering preferences, maintaining accounts, delivering requested notifications, protecting the service from abuse, diagnosing technical problems, measuring service performance, improving recommendations and responding to support requests.
Where UK GDPR or similar law applies, our processing may rely on performance of a contract, legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, compliance with legal obligations, or consent where consent is required.
4. Radio Browser and third-party radio streams
Pela Radio can use the community-maintained Radio Browser directory to discover internet radio stations. Station names, logos, countries, genres and stream addresses may come from Radio Browser or the broadcaster itself.
When you play a third-party station, your device may connect to the station operator's streaming server or another stream provider. That third party may receive technical connection information such as your IP address and user-agent information. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy practices, not this policy.
Pela Radio does not control the content, availability or privacy practices of independent radio broadcasters.
5. Advertising, Firebase and notifications
Google AdMob
The mobile app may display advertising using Google AdMob. Depending on your region, consent choices and device settings, Google and its advertising partners may process device identifiers, approximate location derived from IP address, ad interaction information and other data needed to deliver, measure, limit and protect advertising. Where required, consent choices should be presented before personalised advertising is used.
Firebase Cloud Messaging
Pela Radio uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver push notifications. A device notification token may be registered with Pela Radio so the service can send notifications to that installation. Notification tokens are technical identifiers and may change when the app is reinstalled or refreshed.
Smart Notifications
The app may offer optional Smart Notifications such as listening reminders. These can use locally stored activity such as when you last opened the app or a recently enjoyed station. Local reminders can be scheduled by the app on your device. You can disable Smart Notifications or notification permission through Pela Radio settings and your device settings.
6. Radio recordings
Where the recording feature is supported, recordings are created at your request and are normally stored on your device/app storage. Pela Radio does not claim ownership of broadcast content. You are responsible for using recordings lawfully and respecting copyright and other rights that apply to the broadcast in your country.
If a future feature uploads or synchronises recordings to Pela Radio servers, this policy will be updated before that server-side processing is introduced.
8. Data retention
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing your account, meeting legal obligations, resolving disputes, preventing abuse and maintaining security records. Technical logs and expired notification tokens may be removed or anonymised when no longer needed.
Information stored only on your device can generally be removed by using the relevant in-app controls, clearing app data or uninstalling the app, subject to your device platform's behaviour.
9. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to personal information, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection to certain processing. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
UK users may also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office if they believe their data protection rights have been infringed. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve your concern.
You can control notifications through the app and device settings. Advertising/privacy choices may also be available through the consent controls presented by the app or your device/account advertising settings.
10. Children's privacy
Pela Radio is a general-audience radio service and is not specifically directed at children. We do not knowingly request children to provide personal information in circumstances where parental consent is legally required. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us inappropriately, please contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or alteration. No internet or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so users should also protect their devices and account credentials.
12. International processing
Internet radio, cloud infrastructure, Firebase and advertising services can involve processing in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, appropriate legal safeguards are used for international transfers of personal information.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Pela Radio features, service providers or legal requirements change. The current version will always be published at /privacy and the "Last updated" date will be revised when material changes are made.
